What We Do

Soda City Youth Slam is a community organization founded by teachers, young writers, and poetry mentors in 2016 to give young writers a space to free their voices, speak their souls, and hone their craft in a safe and supportive environment.

CREATING SPACES

SCYS Partnered with Drip Coffeehouse to create spaces where young people can write and speak about their lives with support from their schools as well as artist mentors already living and working in their communities.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Youth today are faced with a big world and a strong community literacy will give them the courage and the space to seize the issues that stand out to them and to become advocates for themselves in a world which may not always take notice. SCYS is here to support young artists as they grow and develop into a community that will uplift all of Columbia.
